Job Summary
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) will be responsible for leading sales operations within a designated territory, achieving sales targets and building strong relationships with distributors, retailers and key accounts. This role involves strategic planning, team management and market expansion to promote Dr. Smith’s diverse product portfolio, including fresh mushrooms, olives and value-added food items. The ideal candidate is a results-oriented leader with a proven track record in FMCG/food sales.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute territory-specific sales strategies to meet or exceed monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets. Monitor performance metrics and take corrective actions as needed.
- Identify new business opportunities, prospect potential distributors and retailers and penetrate untapped markets. Conduct market analysis to understand competitor activities and consumer trends in the food sector.
- Lead, mentor and motivate a team of Sales Executives. Conduct regular training sessions on product knowledge, sales techniques and company policies.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing clients, ensuring timely order fulfillment, issue resolution and customer satisfaction. Negotiate contracts and pricing to maximize profitability.
- Organize trade promotions, dealer meets and in-store demonstrations to increase brand visibility and product off-take. Collaborate with marketing for localized campaigns focused on mushrooms, olives and related products.
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly sales reports, forecasts and market insights using CRM tools. Analyze sales data to optimize inventory and distribution channels.
- Ensure all sales activities comply with company standards, legal regulations and ethical practices. Promote sustainable sourcing and quality assurance in line with Dr. Smith’s values.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field.
- Good experience in sales management within the FMCG, food and beverage or consumer goods industry.
- Proven experience in handling area/territory sales for perishable or gourmet food products is a plus.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and sales analytics tools.
- Ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory.
- Knowledge of the Indian food market, distribution networks and regulatory landscape.
